Etched Candle Holder

After failing at my first attempt with etching cream, I decided it was time to try again. Jesscia at Quarter Life Crisis had a great tutorial on how she worked with etching projects.

Here is what I started with:

  • Candle holder
  • Contact paper
  • Etching Cream
  • Scissors
  • Candle
Step 1 - Cut strips of contact paper

Step 2 - Apply them at intervals to the candle holder

Step 3 - Apply the etching cream, liberally and leave on longer than it says to.

(I still didn't use it quite liberally enough... grrrr)
Step 4 - Rinse and dry.

It isn't perfect, but it is much better.

  2. Looks good! I think it is awesome that you can try a project again and not get discouraged. That says a lot about a person! It actually looks pretty shabby chic in a great way if you ask me!

  4. I used etching cream on a mirror that my husband made a frame for and I had to leave the cream on MUCH longer than it says to... I think about three times as long. I think your candle holder turned out lovely. It certainly does add a touch of "elegance" doesn't it?

  5. Love it! I do similar crafts but have not done the etching (on this). We did etch our front door. We have a big oval clear glass front and found people were leaning over to look in. So, we etched it. Turned put great!!

  6. Okay, until I read your post, I'd never even HEARD of etching cream. (How out of the loop am I?...wow!) I think that is such a fun idea, and yours turned out great! That's great that you stuck it out and tried your hand at it again. Just think, next time it will be even better! Can't wait to see what other cool things you have up your sleeve! Adding you to my blogroll!
