Velcro Capri's

Bug managed to outgrow my favorite pair of jeans over the winter... not in the waist, but in the length. (Mind you, she only wore them once, she ended up on a leggings kick after we bought these.)

So I decided to not only change them into capri's but to give them some options.

Here is what I started with:

  • Too short jeans
  • Various fabrics
  • Velco
  • Scissors
  • Sewing machine
Step 1 - Cut the jeans even shorter:

Pin and hem the bottom:

Attached a strip of velcro to the bottom of each leg of the pants.

Then have your 3 year old walk away and hide your camera so you can't document the rest of the process... gotta love 3 year olds. (I still have 3 more cuffs to make and will make a tutorial when I do.)

(Edited to add: instructions to create the cuffs.  )

Created a set of cuffs and put velco on the wrong side so that they could be attached to the pants like this. (Found the camera... with about 55 odd photos that I didn't take.)

And here is Bug in her "new" capri's!

Now I'm off to make a few more cuffs that she can change out as the mood suits her. All in all, getting the capri's with one set of cuffs took only about 90 minutes with major distractions by the kids. I'm pretty sure I can knock out 3 more sets of cuffs in another 90 minutes or less.

Edited to add: instructions to create the cuffs.
