Simple Capri Cuff

Yesterday I went through the steps to create the capri part of the Velcro Cuff Capri, and thanks to my son, wasn't able to show you the cuff part. In a matter of 30 minutes tonight, I was able to make another simple set of cuffs, taking pictures all along the way to show you here...

Materials:

• Half a yard of fabric
• The loop part of velcro (the hook part was put on the pants.)
• Sewing machine
• Scissors 

Start by attaching the loop part of the velcro around the leg of the pant, I found this to be the safest way to measure, because I'm awful at measuring.

(You don't need to use different color velcro, I did because it thought it showed up better in the photos.)

Snip the extra velcro off

Next figure out how deep you want the cuff to be, and then double it and cut a length of fabric that is equal to the depth of your cuff x 2 + seem allowance.

So if you want a 3 inch deep cuff, cut your fabric to be 6.5" deep (assuming a .25" seam allowance... I usually give myself a bit more as you'll see below.) and then cut 2 pieces of fabric the same width as your velcro plus .5" seem allowance.

Pin your velcro to the right side of the fabric 2" from the top edge and sew.

Fold the fabric with right sides together, pin along the long edge and sew along the open edge:

Turn fabric so right sides are facing out, and then press. You'll see I've moved the seam around to the back more so that the top and bottom edge of the cuff are neat folds.

Next, fold in half so your velcro is facing out and the two raw edges are together and then sew: (See that longer seem allowance, I've got about an inch...)

Next trim any extra fabric you've got and press the seam open:

Then turn your cuffs so the velco is to the inside and you've got a basic cuff.

If you want you can stitch around the top and bottom to give them a little more detail... add additional ribbon, fabric, rickrack... whatever you want to do.

My little bug has a bunch of ideas for additional cuffs so I'll be sure to post them when I'm done.

Oh - and don't throw away any extra velcro you might have... because we've got one pair of jeans and a bunch of cuffs you'll be using more of one side. But I've got a plan for that other side in the next couple of weeks!
