Master Bathroom Vanity Redo

Our master bath is a bit dated, nothing too bad, the wall color, towels and accessories are in good shape, but the vanity and floor leave a lot to be desired.

So, I decided to freshen them up with what I already have on hand, some paint and beadboard wall paper. Here is the before:

Here are the materials I used:
  • Paint (left over from the Bookcase)
  • Beadboard wallpaper (also left over from the bookcase)
  • Spray paint (left over from the clipart rail)
I started by removing the doors and applying sections of the beadboard wallpaper to them.

Next up - Painting the absolutely awful hardware... I'm pretty pleased with my solution for getting the screws painted... I simply screwed them into  a left over 1x2".

And here is the after for the hardware, this turned out to be the most amazing part of the transformation for me.

Next up - painting the doors and drawer fronts - here is where I messed up, I lightly sanded everything, but I should have done a MUCH more thorough job AND I should have primed. As I moved onto really painting... the paint didn't want to stick. But with persistent painting, sanding, painting, sanding... it finally took and worked out well.

The doors after wall paper and painting:

And here is everything put back together:

Total cost for the makeover: $0!!! Everything was left over from previous projects.

And the best part - as we're thinking about painting our kitchen cabinets, this was the perfect project to learn about what we were really facing.

Kids Bathroom

First, I have to apologize, this is another project I completed before I had a blog and so there are no before or during photos, only the after.

We have 2 bathrooms on the upper level of our house, the master bath (which is currently undergoing a mini-transformation) and a bath shared by the kids rooms and the guest room. Here is what we've done with that bathroom:

Shower curtain from Target, valence and café curtain made from a flat sheet from the same collection, it was beyond easy.

Pulled the orange from the shower curtain and used it on the bottom third of the wall, any more than that would have been too much. The decals on the wall were a perfect match in color from the shower curtain. Found them on clearance when Linen's and Things was going out of business.

This is a feature I'm ready to say goodbye to... we have a double vanity, but only 1 sink. So we've used the second half of the vanity as our changing table, hoping our son would get the hint that these things are meant to be done in the bathroom not in his diaper. He's not getting the hint.

I couldn't resist decoupaging the switch plate cover to match the shower curtain.
Very happy with this bathroom, I think it will grow with the kids and I *hope* that the colors keep the flowers from looking too girly.

My husband's bathroom

So maybe my husbands love of Syracuse isn't quite confined to the rec room. It does spill over into one other room just off the rec room.

Our basement bathroom.

I can't really take too much credit for this room. Much of it was a gift from my mom and my mother-in-law to my husband for Christmas. They got together and bought blue and orange towels, an SU trashcan (where many would argue their football team has been living for the past few years), a SU rug and my mom, who is where much of my creativity comes from, even took a Syracuse flag and sewed it onto a shower curtain.

We took things a bit further last weekend by hanging a few clipping from when SU won the national championship.

And I also decoupaged another switch plate cover saving it from the humiliation caused by the previous switch plate painting owners:

And the outlet cover... (Look closely, you'll see that not only did the previous owners believe in painting over switch plate and outlet overs, they actually painted the OUTLETS themselves.

So here it is, perhaps one of the few of its kind in the world. An official, Syracuse University Bathroom.
