The Sunday before Christmas, I dragged out the supplies:
- 1 tile per coaster
- tissue paper, decorated or undecorated, we used some beautiful Eric Carle tissue paper that I'd picked up at a church thrift sale
- Modge Podge
- Heavy duty felt pads
- Varnish
- Adorable children to make the coasters that will melt the hearts of their grandparents.
We placed each of the tiles on a paper plate to help contain the mess.
I then tore sections of tissue paper and threw them in the middle of the table and let the kids go crazy.
I imagined the older kids would try to make a picture, but they all went abstract... they all turned out wonderful.
There was a coaster for each grandparents, plus ones for us... oh and the little girl next door who joined us, she took home 4 as well.
I'd love to repeat this as the kids get older to see what they come up with.
These are beautiful, Maggie! I will file this idea away for when the grandkids are here...looks like a great project for them! thanks for sharing; I love your blog! Happy New Year, and please tell your mom I say HI!
ReplyDeleteI'm so happy you like them Eileen! I've found myself looking at tissue papers in a whole new way, eyeing them for what they can become... Tissue paper lends intself so well to decopage.
